Design progress/process?

The most recent model in progress.


We have gone through several changes and hundreds of ideas and are now settled on what might be called a rocking bench, this is the first model.


Chair with pull-out side table

Chair with sides that pull out into a bed or side table.

Cheese wheel

White section is upholstered and the brown part is a wooden tabletop/cupboard/drawer that rotates into the main body to expose storage.

Exploring materials

3D sketching with different materials, while focusing on modular forms and keeping the raw material exposed. Felt is quite fun to play with, edge stable and quite stiff.The orange peel is more of a blue sky idea, but I want to work on its structure and work in the felt.

Semi Cylinders with cover and more plasticine

Use some imagination and picture this model chair sized. The corrugated cardboard is a canvas with ribs of foam and the semi cylinders are a semi uppholstered hollow form with wood ends. Rearange to create a "nest," a chair, lounger, sleeping mat, table...



I have been finding plasticine great to quickly come up with a bunch of ideas without have to get caught up in how to make the forms. Maybe not the most practical furniture in some cases but hopefully the ideas will lead to something.

The ultimate modular furniture...sort of...

3D Sketching

First experiments with repetitive modules using cardboard and plasticine. Picture big upholstered blocks.





The plan with most of these was to play with the idea of either a single form that can be aranged in numerous 'furniture settings' or a set of pieces that can for a whole piece of furniture or be broken up to make a few.
